Application Allowlisting

Discover how to check and configure allowlisted applications in Actifile.

Actifile agent can encrypt sensitive files to protect against unauthorized access. However, certain applications or channels may require access to these files without encryption. This is where allowlisting comes in.

When you allowlist an application, files touched by this application will be auto-decrypted. The general recommendation is to keep the number of allowlisted applications at a minimum. Focus on allowlisting only essential industry-specific applications and select paths for securely transmitting files externally.

How to set up allowlisting or check allowlisted applications?

To set up allowlisting or check which applications are currently allowlisted, follow these steps:

Step 1. Navigate to Deployment > Decryption Allowlist (in the old interface, Deployment > Application/Channel Whitelisting).

Step 2. Switch to the By Application tab (in the old interface, check the box Show Applications First). Find the necessary application in the list, and examine the Auto Decryption column.

Step 3. Choose the option that suits your needs from the dropdown menu.

The available options are:

  • Keep Encrypted: Files touched by the application will always remain encrypted.
  • Always Decrypt: Files touched by the application will always be decrypted. The application will thus be allowlisted.
  • Use Classifier Settings (in the old UI, Per Policy): Files will be encrypted or decrypted depending on the settings of the classifier that identified the file as sensitive. Want to learn more about classifiers? Refer to this article.
