Create a Demo System for Your Customers

This guide helps MSPs create a demo system that showcases Actifile’s capabilities using data relevant to their customers.

MSPs need a demo environment that mirrors their customers' needs and opportunities. Because each MSP serves clients across various geographies, industries, and regulatory requirements, a well-prepared demo should reflect:

  • Data Types: PII, ePHI, CUI, etc.

  • Regions: United States, European countries, Asia.

  • Industries: Financial, healthcare, contractors.

  • Regulatory Frameworks: CMMC, GLBA, HIPAA, FINRA, PDPA, etc.

Steps to Create a Demo Account

Step 1. Log into the Actifile Partner Portal and click Add Customer to create a demo customer account.

Note: Contact Actifile support to enable Not for Resale (NFR) status on the demo account and get a limited number of free licenses.

Step 2. Select all relevant regulations and countries for your customer base. To maximize data type detection, enable PII for the following countries:

Step 3. Choose up to five machines (demo or production) for Actifile installation. Download the demo dataset from this link and copy it to the Documents folder on these machines.

Note: We recommend maintaining the folder structure for easy removal later.

Step 4. Install the agent using your preferred deployment method. Ensure you use the correct Install Key linked to the demo customer account. Once installed, allow at least 30 minutes for the system to classify files.

Step 5. Head to the Customer Portal > Settings > Customer Settings and ensure the App Access to Files Monitoring is enabled in Defaults for Workstations. This will allow the agent to track file events.

Step 6. Simulate application risk events by:

  • Opening classified documents using local applications.

  • Uploading files to external applications like WhatsApp.

  • Uploading files to EFSS platforms like OneDrive or document portals like Google Docs.

Note: Only use files detected by the system. Some demo files may not match selected classifiers and won’t appear as sensitive in the Data Explorer.

Step 7. Generate a few sample reports in the Reports tab.
