      Deploy Actifile with N-able’s N-central

      This guide explains how to deploy and monitor Actifile using N-able's N-central platform.

      You can easily deploy Actifile via N-able using the specialized Automation Policy that we created. Here are its key features:

      • Checks for existing installations of Actifile.

      • Retrieves the latest version of the Actifile installer.

      • Installs Actifile silently, avoiding interruptions, and does not require a reboot.

      • Uses the Actifile InstallKey stored as a Custom Property to ensure the correct tenant is applied.

      • Generates detailed error logs and outputs status codes that can be viewed directly on N-central’s status page.

      Note: The deployment policy is fully compatible with N-central. It is supported for N-Sight, but the InstallKey must be entered manually.

      How to use the Automation Policy?

      Step 1. Navigate to the Service Organization (SO) level in N-central.

       

      Step 2. Go to Configuration > Scheduled Tasks > Script/Software Repository. Click Add and upload the unzipped Automation Policy file. Refresh the scripts page to confirm that the Actifile Deployment policy appears.

      - Download the Automation Policy file.

      Step 3. Under Administration -> Custom Properties, add a new custom property and give it a name (e.g., “Actifile InstallKey”).

      Note: Do not assign a default value to this property.

       

      Step 4. For each customer, navigate to their properties via SO > Administration > Customers > [Select Customer] > Custom Properties tab. Add the Actifile InstallKey to the relevant field.

      Step 5. Run the deployment script, ensuring that the InstallKey is correctly assigned to the script’s input variable. Review the output on the N-central Status page.

      Adding Actifile Service Monitoring

      Step 1. At the SO level, navigate to Administration > Service Templates. Click Import and add the three provided templates (for workstations, servers, and laptops).

      - Download the templates.

      Step 2. Head to Configuration > Monitoring > Rules. Create a new rule (e.g., “Actifile Deployment and Monitoring”).

       

      Step 3. Set device targets to Windows Workstations, Windows Laptops, and Windows Servers. Apply the imported service templates.

       

      Step 4. Under the Grant Customers settings, ensure the customer InstallKey is set before running the rule.
